What is Reiki?

Reiki is a relaxation practice that allows the body and mind to slow down and release tension.

The essentials:

During a session, the body gradually enters a state of deep relaxation. This state often helps calm the mind, release tension, and bring back a sense of calm.

Comment ça se passe ?

The session begins with a short conversation, to share what you need or simply take a moment to arrive.

You then lie down comfortably, in a calm environment. Hands are placed on different areas of the body, always respecting your comfort.

As the session progresses, the body naturally slows down. Some people feel warmth, a deep release, or simply a moment of pause. There’s nothing to do, nothing to achieve.

Just let yourself be carried by the experience.

How does it act?

When the body relaxes, the nervous system can move out of a state of alert.

This often helps reduce stress, quiet the mind, and release certain emotional tensions.

My approach:

In my practice, Reiki is above all a space to slow down. I draw on the body, sensations, and how the nervous system works to offer an approach that’s simple, accessible, and free of esoteric language.

What Reiki is

  • A supportive, person-centred practice (alongside medical care or not, depending on what you’re looking for)
  • A natural approach to managing stress
  • A practice for everyday, natural wellbeing
  • Deep work on emotions

What it isn't

  • Conventional or unconventional care (treatment of a symptom)
  • A practice equivalent to (para)medical or psychotherapeutic care
  • A form of gentle, alternative, complementary, or unconventional medicine
  • A magical healing practice

Indications

  • Natural regulator (naturally supporting your everyday energy)
  • Mental calm that supports confidence and self-esteem
  • Prevention and lifestyle support (helpful for stress, unusual fatigue, chronic anxiety, insomnia, and anything related to somatisation…)
  • Support alongside illness (easing suffering and discomfort)

Contraindications

  • If the person hasn’t asked for it or declines it
  • As a substitute for a physical and/or mental illness
  • Depression, psychotic or schizophrenic disorders, dissociative identity conditions

Side effects

As Reiki is an entirely natural practice, there are no side effects. The deep, releasing physical relaxation can sometimes bring about certain reactions in the body and mind.

FAQ

Is Reiki a form of medicine?

No. Reiki is not a form of medicine and does not aim to diagnose or treat an illness. It is a relaxation practice that supports deep rest and helps the body find better balance.

Does Reiki work even if I don’t believe in it?

Yes. You don’t need to believe in Reiki to enjoy a moment of relaxation. Many people come simply to slow down, reduce their stress levels, or take care of themselves. There are many different views and explanations about Reiki. For me, it’s a deep relaxation technique based on how the human body works.

Are there any contraindications?

Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive practice, so there are very few contraindications. If in doubt, or in a specific medical situation, it’s still recommended to speak with your doctor.

Can I receive a session while undergoing medical treatment?

Yes, many people choose to receive Reiki sessions alongside medical care. Sessions never replace prescribed treatments, but can offer a space for relaxation during this time.

Is Reiki recognised?

Reiki is practised today in many countries. Some care facilities and associations include it as a complementary wellbeing practice. In Switzerland, some approaches are recognised by supplementary insurance, but Reiki is not currently reimbursed by insurance.

Why choose Rémy Gainet for a Reiki session?

I welcome each person with simplicity, without esoteric language or unrealistic promises. My approach is based on listening, respecting everyone’s own pace, and creating a space for relaxation where it becomes possible to release tension, quiet the mind, and find a little more calm in daily life. Sessions are available in Geneva as well as in La Muraz, in Haute-Savoie.
